Williamson County Homestead Exemption (2019 Complete Guide)

If you’re wondering how to lower your property taxes, the Williamson County homestead exemption is a great place to start. The exemption affects your home’s taxable value, subsequently lowering your property tax burden every year you live in the home.

To qualify for the exemption, your Williamson County property must be your primary residence, and you must have lived there since January 1 of the year you’re filing. To file for the exemption in 2019, you must submit your application to the Williamson County Appraisal District between January 1 and April 30.

How to File a Williamson County Homestead Exemption

The first step in filing your homestead exemption is to fill out this form, which is available from the Texas Comptroller’s office. You can fill it out digitally or print it and fill it in. Be sure to list Williamson County Appraisal District at the top, where it says “Appraisal District Name.” The address is 625 FM 1460, Georgetown, Texas 78626.

As you fill out the document, you may want to have your deed and other purchase paperwork with you. You may need details on your acreage for portions of the form. If you’re filing for an exemption on a mobile home, you will need a copy of your title or purchase contract.

Under section 3 of the form, be sure to choose “General Residence Homestead Exemption,” as this is the general exemption that all county residents apply for as long as the home is their primary residence. Check to see if you qualify for other exemptions in addition to this one, including the Age 65 or Older Exemption, the Disabled Person Exemption or the 100% Disabled Veteran Exemption. These exemptions could lower your tax burden even further.

You will also need to include a copy of your driver’s license with your application, as well as the license of any other homeowners filing for the exemption. Make sure the address on your license matches the address of the property you’re filing for. Then, submit these copies, along with your form to [email protected] or drop off the form in person at 625 FM 1460 Georgetown, Texas. Make sure the documents are turned in by April 30, 2019.
